Art collection moved to Newport

A collection of 300 pieces of art have been moved to Marble House in Newport to take up residence in the property’s Gothic Room.
The collection comprises of Medieval and Renaissance artworks that were transported from the house in 1925 after its closure, but the re-opening by the Preservation Society of Newport County has meant the collection is to be shown off in its original setting, the Kuwait Times reports.

Coin Sniffer to protect gold collectors

A new analytical system has been launched that aims to protect gold coin collectors by detecting the use of foreign alloys or other substances implanted on the surface of a piece.
The Coin Sniffer from the Professional Coin Grading Service uses techniques including X-ray spectrometry and infrared spectral analysis to highlight the work of "coin doctors" within seconds, the organisation said.

Gold coin to commemorate Austrian physician

A gold €50 coin is to be issued to commemorate an Austrian doctor who pioneered the treatment of allergies and helped to bring about progressive reforms in hospital care and nursing.
Baron Clemens von Pirquet was born in 1874 outside Vienna. He went on to study medicine at the turn of the century before taking a course in paediatrics in Berlin.

Gold is continuing to rise in popularity among investors as they lose faith in paper currencies and look to the precious metal as a safer store of money, according to one expert.
James Mackintosh of the Financial Times says that with gold investments now entering the popular consciousness, they could carry on gaining ground for another few years.
